Imagery is the language of the unconscious. Art, perhaps especially abstract art, provides a projective field in which consciousness can explore the thoughts, emotions, and sensations that arise in reaction to the image. By being present with these reactions, the meaning of the unconscious can be integrated, thus healing psychic wounds, offering insight and an opportunity towards enlightenment.

Life experiences create a pattern much like a groove in a record, that we will unconsciously replay, often leading to symptoms and suffering. In order to break an unhealthy pattern, we must first become aware of the traumas, influences, and beliefs that create this paradigm. Through self-awareness, we gain insight into our true nature, develop the ability to self-regulate, and become empowered to re-create a sense of self.
